Llyn Bochlwyd sits nestled in a valley below Tryfan and Glyder Fach. Y Gribin, the ridge giving access to either Glyder Fach or Glyder Fawr, rises up just east of the lake. If you are hiking to either Tryfan via the Western Gully or the Glyders via Y Gribin you will pass Bochlwyd, but it also makes for a pleasant walk in itself if you are more limited in time. Like Llyn Idwal, Bochlwyd is not visible from the A5 road that runs along Llyn Ogwen: you must climb Cwm Bochlwyd before the lake comes into view. Unlike Llyn Idwal, Bochlwyd attracts fewer visitors and affords more expansive views back toward the Ogwen valley.

 

The path to Bochlwyd leaves from the second car park heading west alongside Llyn Ogwen. From here you climb fairly steeply straight up the hill, passing a river and waterfalls, before the terrain levels off at the lake.

 

From the lake, you can either return to the car park via the same route, or more interestingly, head west past the base of Y Gribin toward Llyn Idwal. From the high point there are fantastic views back toward Tryfan and the Ogwen valley as well as ahead to Llyn Idwal. The path then drops steeply to join the trail that circles the lake, which you can follow back to the Ogwen cottage and then return to the car park along the road.
